Dermal fillers can be a fantastic way to look a little younger without the need for surgery. True, these injectables can’t do everything that surgical facelift can. But they aren’t really trying to. Instead, dermal fillers are designed to make small changes to the face that address lines, wrinkles, and other visible signs of aging.

Some of the more prominent benefits of dermal fillers include:

They’re temporary
Dermal fillers will typically last between 12-24 months (although this varies considerably by the brand and type). You’ll have the option of changing your look based on trends, or allowing your results to fade to return to how you looked before your treatment.

Who Are Dermal Fillers For?

We use the full line of Juvéderm, Allergan’s hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. And that provides patients with a wide variety of options to choose from. It’s likely that there could be a dermal filler solution for your specific concerns. Each filler type will have its own unique strengths and drawbacks, which means that they are not necessarily interchangeable.

In most cases, good candidates for dermal filler injections will:

Have modest or minimal lines, wrinkles, and folds that they want eliminated.
Have specific wrinkles that they want mitigated, such as forehead lines, nasolabial folds or marionette lines.
Not be a good candidate for surgery or wish to avoid surgery for other reasons.
Have realistic expectations about what dermal fillers can accomplish.
Have a desire to increase volume in certain areas of the face (such as the lips, cheeks and temples).
Want to achieve temporary results.
Want to avoid a surgical recovery.

During your consultation, we will discuss your dermal filler options, including which filler type might be the best option to help you achieve your desired outcome. In many cases, your injections can be performed on the same day as your initial consultation.

Your Filler Options

Juvéderm is the name for a family of hyaluronic acid based fillers that can treat a wide variety of issues. It has a fair amount of cross-linking in its molecular formula, meaning it's good to use when your filler treatment needs a little strength and rigidity.

Each filler type is used to accomplish a different result. Your options include:

Juvéderm Ultra XC
This is for run of the mill, relatively shallow topical wrinkles.
Juvederm Ultra Plus XC
Juvederm Ultra Plus Ultra XC is intended to treat deeper wrinkles and is popular for lip enhancement. It is designed to be more flexible and lasts a bit longer than Juvederm Ultra Plus Ultra XC.
Vollure
This particular injectable is used to treat especially deep lines around the face. Specific types of treated wrinkles include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and oral commissures.
Volbella
Volbella is an injectable that is composed of very fine molecule chains, making it perfect to treat areas that require a soft touch. Volbella, specifically, is most often used to treat lip wrinkles and tear trough wrinkles.
Voluma
If you’re losing volume in your cheeks, Voluma is the injectable you’ll want to use. This dermal filler is specifically formulated to help lift and add volume to the cheeks.

The Injectable Filler Procedure

Your dermal filler procedure will be relatively straightforward. First, we will determine whether fillers are suitable to achieve your goals during a medical consultation with Dr. Endara or Dr. Fulks. Then, the area to be targeted is examined. You may be given a topical numbing agent (sometimes it’s even as simple as an ice pack), prior to treatment. However filler injections rarely produce significant discomfort.

The desired area of the face is thoroughly cleansed. We will then simply administer the prescribed amount of filler into the desired area of the face, delivered by a pre-filled syringe in a series of mini injections.

Dermal Filler Recovery

Once you’ve undergone your dermal filler injection treatment, you’ll be able to resume all normal daily activities. You may wish to avoid vigorous exercise or contact sports for a day or two after your injections, however, as this gives the filler some time to “set.” You may also be asked to massage the area, which should only be done if we recommend it.
