Thigh Lift Types and Resulting Scars

The most suitable type of thigh lift for you depends on what specific area you'd like to improve.

Inner Thigh Lift (Horizontal)

An inner thigh lift, also known as a medial thigh lift, targets the excess skin and fat in the upper, inner area of your thighs. This involves making an incision within the natural crease at the top of thigh, where it meets the pubic area, extending from the front to the back. Excess tissue is removed and the area is lifted and sutured together, so the resulting scar remains within the crease where it is well hidden.

Inner Thigh Lift (Vertical)

This type of inner thigh lift targets the excess skin and fat along the upper to lower inner area of your thighs. As a result, it is designed for patients who require more extensive contouring. This involves making an incision within the natural crease at the top of thigh, like the horizontal approach, but also adding another incision vertically down to the inner knee. The scars from a vertical inner thigh lift may be more noticeable since they run the length of the inner thigh, however the procedure gives you the most dramatic results!

Outer Thigh Lift

An outer thigh lift targets the bulging skin and fat located on the upper outer thighs, just below the hips. You may know these bulges as saddlebags. Also known as a lateral thigh lift, an incision is made in an arc along the hip joint, where a scar results. The saddlebag is removed and the remaining tissues are sutured together for a firmer, leaner contour.

The Thigh Lift Surgery

A thigh lift is a more invasive procedure that can take 4-5 hours, although it doesn't require an overnight stay. Markings are made to map out the targeted area and then general anesthesia is administered. Precise incisions are made, excess tissues are removed, and liposuction is performed if necessary (you'll find out if you need liposuction before your surgery). Finally, the incisions are closed and bandaged. Our surgeons perform meticulous suturing techniques that are reinforced to reduce the risk of accidental separation.
